Compass devotion
Compass devotion
You need a compass, 1 very large nail, spike or screw, and 1 very small nail, spike or screw.
Begin with talking about how we use a compass to find our direction in the wilderness and how the needle always points one direction compared to Jesus being the right way for us in life and how if we ever feel lost all we need to do is turn to him for guidance and we will not be lost anymore, then pause for a minute and talk about what Sin is. Let the boys make two lists on the blackboard or whatever you use. Make one column of Major sins (MURDER, BLASPHEMY, any other stuff the boys can think of) and one column of Minor sins (name calling, teasing, little white lies, etc.) The point is that the boys should make the list so they have two distinct sets of sins, One worse than the other. Now go back to the compass and again compare Jesus to the compass needle as guide in our lives. Talk about how when we SIN BIG it takes away from the direction we should be going in our life While you are talking bring the large nail next to the compass and show the boys how the needle moves away from north. This will impress the boys but the best is yet to come. Now talk about how the size of a sin doesn't matter to God. A SIN is the same as a sin no matter what. Demonstrate by using the small nail next to the compass and watching the needle move just the same as it did with the big nail. This really shocked some of my boys tonight!! Now close with a prayer for the boys to resist all temptations from sin both large and small.
